此香薰以白玉雕就，器盖顶部雕刻太极纹，余地镂雕繁密云纹，碾琢硬朗，器身亦浮雕饰云纹，生动有致。以云纹为主题的玉雕，乾嘉复兴，广泛成为工艺流行题材。此器选材精良，线条深凸，玲珑有致，图样设计别出心裁，意味深远。香薰在古代是一种实用器，白居易《后宫词》中有云：“斜倚熏笼坐到明”中的熏笼说的便是香薰，是一种点燃熏料驱赶蚊虫的器物。后来也演变成一种文化，在一些宗教祭祀仪礼中用以焚香。
