盖盒造型小巧，为像生雕件。取竹立体圆雕，双螯欲动，蟹眼圆浑，熠熠闪烁，八爪足尖，分别外露，雕刻极为生动写实。螃蟹盖盒以子母口相紧密扣合，蟹壳翻开即可见其内膛，盖合之后丝毫不见缝边。螃蟹眼部则以硬木镶嵌，高凸有神，凡此均可见匠师之巧思与雕工之极致。清代竹根圆雕写生之器，时有所见，以蟹为题材的竹根雕作品亦偶有传世，较为特殊的是此拍品实际上是一件香盒，而并非单纯的摆件，极富文人气韵，想必古代文人雅趣也是对民俗之物情有独钟，故具其独特性。
