Revolutionary War Revolutionary War Quartermaster Nicholas Quackenbush's Accounts, 1781A fascinating set of ledger sheets retained by Quackenbush. The accounts, a massive manuscript document consisting of four string-bound double folio (36 x 26 in.) sheets folded to folio size, 6 pp. filled in, Albany, March to May 1781 document in great detail "Articles delivered." They note the date, the voucher number, "To whom Delivered" and "By whose Order" and then provide a long set of columns to account for almost every conceivable article, ranging from horses to pikes, a wide variety of tools, all types of lumber, as well as foodstuffs. The document is also a testament to the continuing presence of slavery in New York, as several of the deliveries were performed by slaves. For example on April 26, "Francis Glen Negro" delivered 150 tents. On May 7, "Tom Negro" delivered 20 quires of writing paper. An important record, worthy of further research. Minor dampstains, very light soiling, otherwise fine condition. This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.WE PROVIDE IN-HOUSE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE!
