Revolutionary War 1776 Massachusetts Bay Military CommissionPrinted Document Signed by 15 members of the Council of Massachusetts-Bay (including W. Spooner, Charles Chauncey, John Taylor, John Whetcomb, and B. White), broadside on paper, 12.5" x 15", minor foxing, separated with loss and repair at central fold, very good.Accomplished in a clerical hand, Watertown, March 23, 1776, being Noah Whitman's appointment as "second Lieutenant of the Sixth Company of the third Regiment of Militia in the County of Plymouth whereof Edward Mitchell Esq. is Colonel," countersigned by Perez Morton, Deputy Secretary, on behalf of the Major Part of the Council, embossed paper seal, endorsement signed in the lower right corner by Lt. Col. David Jones and Maj. Eliphat Cary indicating that Whitman appeared before them "and took the oath required to Qualifie him for the Trust Reposed in him."
