《易》述：「巽木于下者为鼎，象析木以炊也。籒文以鼎为贞字。凡鼎之属皆从鼎。」即鼎一开始是作为炊具出现，后被视为立国重器，是国家权威的象征，在古代礼制中为凸显身份等级之物。所谓天子九鼎，其地位不言而喻。此鼎器体规整，大腹圆底，花纹精细，盖上的三环钮是春秋时期鼎的重要特征。清晰精美的蟠虺纹环绕鼎身，遍至盖顶、耳侧，虺为小蛇，取义龙身，细小如蛇，此纹饰流行于春秋中晚期，是显赫尊贵的象征，亦体现了春秋时期青铜器之特点；另双附耳正立面与鼎身缠绕以绳纹，纹饰疏密有致，线条流畅，有着浅浮雕的立体效果；三底足墩实稳重，端庄大气。整器造型庄重，纹饰精美繁密，是春秋时期鼎的典型风格。参阅：故宫博物院藏，蟠虺纹鼎来源：台湾藏家旧藏
