镌文：“庚寅年”、“孟臣制”
周凯《厦门志》卷十五记载喝茶“壶必曰孟公壶，杯必曰若深杯”。此器形貌优雅，身筒扁圆饱满，笠帽式壶盖平压于壶口，上接圆形壶钮，与壶身相协调。盖内制工严谨，线面交待清楚。三弯流口处理尖薄利落，出水极佳。圈把外圆内扁，易于把持。壶底镌“庚寅年”，把下镌““孟臣制”楷书款。
孟臣，惠孟臣，传为明天启、崇祯间宜兴制壶名手（一说孟臣为清康熙、雍正间人）。江苏宜兴人，生卒不详，孟臣名号有君德、思亭等，孟臣是晚年自号，为时大彬后一名手。孟臣制壶，大壶浑朴，小壶精妙，笔法类褚河南。清·吴骞《阳羡名陶录·家溯》、日·奥兰田《茗壶图录》、民国·李景康、张虹《阳羡砂壶图考·别传》等著录中皆对孟臣开篇详加叙述。
