此尊佛头螺发颗颗分明，额头宽广，眉弓细长弧弯，双目含苞俯视，鼻梁挺拔，嘴角微抿，下颚颔收，五官塑造立体，大耳颀长垂肩，一副慈善、悲悯的面相豁然于眼前。
佛首在造型上依然遵循古印度的造像模式，即佛像具备“相好”的标准，并着意刻画了几种相好的特征，如饱满分明的螺发、额广平正、眉间毫相、眉如初月、眼广长如柳叶、鼻高不现孔等。
整尊佛首给人以安详，静穆，崇高之感，原像虽仅幸存头部，但从其俊美的开脸工艺看，足以让人感叹古人技艺之高超，敬佛崇圣之心诚，至今仍可想象全像当年巍峨壮观之原貌，不失其殊缺美。
