菩萨是无漏的圣人，无所谓性别，但是在造像上人们总喜欢让菩萨带上世俗的性别。因此存世佛像中，无论是观音，还是文殊普贤，大都是中性甚至偏柔美的形象。
此普贤造像以僧人形象出现，比丘样貌，浓眉且有络腮短须，双手平举似有托物，单跏趺坐于卧象上，给人感觉自在大方，既散发出宗教的庄严神圣，又平易近人。坐骑为象说明其普贤身份，该形式的普贤存世极为少见。
整尊作品将佛家至高的“止息散心，专注一境”的禅定气象表现得淋漓尽致，将普贤菩萨具化为一个平易亲切之长者的形象，给人以超跃凡人的大自在，处处禅意。
