A Tibetan bronze statue of a deified Buddhist lama dating from the 14th or 15th century. He sits in padmasana on a double lotus pedestal holding his hands in the turning the wheel of law position, or dharmachakra mudra. The soles of his feet are incised with flowers. The lama wears monastic robes and a pandita hat with long lappets. Two lotuses flank his shoulders; the one on his right supports a sword hilt, and the one on the left supports a manuscript, the Prajnaparamita sutra, signifying his deification. The lower portion of the pedestal is incised with Tibetan script. The bottom of the statue is incised with a vajra cross. Dimensions are: 7 1/2 inches tall X 5 1/2 inches wide, 19.1 cm X 14 cm. Weight: 1700 grams. All measurements are approximate. Condition: There are multiple areas of repairs. The bottom has been replaced. General age wear.
