WEYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS FAMILY RECORD NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER, silk on linen, top featuring "Family Register" above list of Rogers family names and birth dates, featuring parents John Rogers and Mary Pratt with a box below containing the names of their 12 children comprising Nancy, Mary, Daniel, Leah, John, Calvin, Priscilla, George, Ezra, Norman, Harriet, and Samuel, lower section featuring a four-line verse, two funerary urns under trees with one reading "In memory of / Olive Rogers / who died / Sept the 11th / aet 89 ye / 1822." and "In memory / of / Daniel Rogers / who died / Ma[r]ch 31st / aged 21 yrs / 1824." written next to the other urn, center signed "Executed / by / Priscilla Rogers / AD. 1824", all encompassed by a flowering-vine border. Housed under glass in a period birdseye maple veneer frame. Dated 1824. 17 1/4" x 15 5/8" sight, 20" x 18 1/4" OA. Very good overall condition with a few stains, scattered losses to black thread notably to verse, less than expected minor fading and fugitive color to some thread, frame with some wear, marks, slight separation at corners, scattered losses to veneer, and a few cracks. Catalogue Note: Priscilla Rogers was born May 10th, 1809 in Weymouth, Norfolk Co., MA to parents John Rogers (1777-1838) and Mary "Polley" Pratt (1778-1825), who were married in 1799. Priscilla would have been around 14 or 15 years old when she completed this sampler. In 1830, she married Daniel Loud, Jr. (1797-1852) of Weymouth, who was the widow of her sister Nancy who died in 1828. Priscilla and Daniel had nine children of their own in addition to the three surviving children from his first two marriages. Priscilla died in 1885 and is buried at Highland Cemetery in Weymouth.
