Measurements: 16.5in x16.25in x 16.25in Chinese Ming Dynasty Period, Jiajing Wucai dragon motif porcelain jar. Potted with a large cylinder vessel, jar shape, having thick and tall potted body, sturdily potted in slight ovoid belly, heavy on shoulder gently tapered on short neck, toward opening mouth prominent, with slight flaring opening lip, and raised on flat wide round foot base. The exterior hand painted ornamentations are rendered in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against wucai design, WuCai or five-color shades and tones, brightly painted around the exterior, between the filling motif decorated in colorful vivid ground of uptala, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. Flower blooms with interlocking tendril decorated on the shoulder and the collar. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The colors are harmonious, balanced, elegant and exquisite, the composition is sophisticated, simply a feast for the eye. Mark on upper collar, a six under glazed blue script characters reign mark, Made In The Years JiaJing Reign Period of Great Ming Dynasty.
