PROVENANCE: Stanley G Martin (1938-2019) of Marietta, GA . Stan attended High school in Albany, graduated from the University of Georgia and then entered the navy for 3 years. They moved to Atlanta where Stan worked for 35 years in Market Research International Accounts. Mr. Martin traveled extensively often taking his family with him to visit and learn about foreign countries. Finding treasures and antiques from around the world was a benefit and a passion for his family. In his retirement years he enjoyed restoring antiques as well as early model automobiles back to their original condition. Potted in shallow vessel form, thick and large, with broad wide central interior, rounded cavetto gently tapering to open wide, with scallop rim open lip, raised with round shallow draft, slight concave base. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the iron red fine color, depicted of flowers blooms interspersed foliage, surrounded with ruyi shaped large pendants filled by scrolling clouds, interspersed by floral and fruiting banquets on outer center. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. The underside unglazed, revealed the reddish-creme ground and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks with edge-cut foot rim.
