PROVENANCE: Stanley G Martin (1938-2019) of Marietta, GA . Stan attended High school in Albany, graduated from the University of Georgia and then entered the navy for 3 years. They moved to Atlanta where Stan worked for 35 years in Market Research International Accounts. Mr. Martin traveled extensively often taking his family with him to visit and learn about foreign countries. Finding treasures and antiques from around the world was a benefit and a passion for his family. In his retirement years he enjoyed restoring antiques as well as early model automobiles back to their original condition. Measurements: 19.25in x14.75in x 14.75in Chinese Ming Dynasty period, blue and white dragon motif porcelain reward vase. Potted in reward shape vase, thick and tall globular lower body, tapered gracefully toward straight cylindrical neck, and slight flaring mouth rim, raised on a short small round foot base with slight concave. The exterior decorated with hand-painting in clean white under glazed base color which contrast against the cobalt blue, depicted of snarling huge imperial five claws dragon careening through cumulus clouds above thrashing Li-shui waves in a dark blue color dragon squama to chasing flaming pearl amidst flames and vapors. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous, the shape is uniformly proportioned. The underside unglazed, revealed the pale-creme ground and dark grayish brown spotted firing marks with edge-cut foot rim.
