Luigi Bazzani, 1836 Bologna – 1927 Rom
THE FLOWER
BASKET Oil on cardboard.
39 x 53 cm.
Signed "Luigi Bazzani" and inscribed "Roma" at lower left.
In partly gilded frame.
In a Pompeian atrium two women are in the process of decorating the splendid large columns with garlands of flowers. One lady, dressed in a yellow garment, holds a flower basket, while the other lady at a table, dressed in a blue garment, has just put flowers together. Through the rectangular opening, light falls from above into the centre of the house, below which there is a walk-in water basin. On the right in the background, in front of a red wall, is a large house altar. On the left a young woman leaves the room with a magnificent blue and white mosaic floor. Painting with many details with predominantly strong bright red colouring. (1221084) (2) (18)
