Leigh Vivien Vivien Leigh ALS Thanking Birthday Well-Wisher: "You can have no idea how really touched I am"2pp autograph letter signed by British actress Vivien Leigh (1913-1967) as "Vivien Leigh" on the second page at bottom right. Written in London, England on December 2, [1957]. Inscribed overall in Leigh's fluid handwriting on both sides of a double-weight blue stationery card with deckled edges. Leigh's residential address, "54, Eaton Square / S.W.1. / Sloane 1955." is embossed in white along the top of the card recto. A reversible pencil inscription recto, else near fine, 6.25" x 3.875". Accompanied by its original transmittal envelope also inscribed in Leigh's hand, bearing a cancelled 3 pence Queen Elizabeth II purple stamp and postmarked from London, England. The return address flap has been removed verso, else very good. This note was addressed to an unknown well-wisher named Joyce about one month after Leigh's 44th birthday, which she had celebrated on November 5, 1957. In full, with unchanged spelling and punctuation:"Dec 2ndDear Joyce Haddant - You can have no idea how really touched I am by your sweet thoughtful birthday present. The miniature is beautifully painted + delightfully mounted + will always remain a treasured possession Thank you for giving me something which brings such joy. My best grateful good wishes to you. Vivien Leigh".Vivien Leigh was a well-respected theater and film actress. Leigh studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London before accepting her first movie role as an extra. She achieved success in English theatrical productions before trying the movies in the mid-to-late 1930s. Her break-out success as Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind (1939) made her an international star. Throughout the next twenty-five years, Leigh would act in numerous productions, but she focused on the stage during her final years, starring in adaptions of William Shakespeare, Noel Coward, Anton Chekov, and Jean Girandoux. This item comes with a Certificate from John Reznikoff, a premier authenticator for both major 3rd party authentication services, PSA and JSA (James Spence Authentications), as well as numerous auction houses.WE PROVIDE IN-HOUSE SHIPPING WORLDWIDE!
