Biddle Clement Clement Biddle ALS Regarding Bank of Columbia and Local Coffeehouse Business1p ALS inscribed overall and signed by Revolutionary War veteran and "Quaker Soldier" Clement Biddle (1740-1814) as "Clement Biddle" in the lower right corner. In very good to near fine condition, with expected paper folds and overall even toning. A few isolated repairs throughout. The bifold pages include an integral address leaf bearing handwritten and stamped philatelic markings, a partial wax seal, and docket notations. The whole letter is inlaid into a cream sheet. The letter measures 8" x 9.875". From the Collection of Norman Boas of Seaport Autographs and recently purchased at Christie's December 5, 2017 sale.Clement Biddle penned this letter to a Bank of Columbia cashier on October 29, 1802 from Philadelphia. (All excerpts have untouched grammar and spelling mistakes.) "I write this in town I inclose Check on the branch bank at Balte for 8000$ and of Mr. Stodderts but no Comn charged. Please to inform Mr. M? that I have made no further sale of 6?, - the fever has been troublesome", Biddle wrote. The successful merchant, notary, and scrivener split his time between Philadelphia and the "Country", adding: "About the Coffeehouse in my neighbourhood I check business  "Clement Biddle, although a practicing Quaker, fought in the Revolutionary War Battles of Princeton, Germantown, Brandywine, and Monmouth before resigning from the Continental Army in 1780.
