REDVCT MART X MDCCLXXXIX, suspended from a later baleSize/dimensions: 3.5cm diameterGross weight: 9.5 gramsOffered for sale with an invoice from J & J May dated 17/6/87, and a hand written note detailing the purpose of the medalThe medal is commemorative of George III's recovery from his first bout of mental illness between autumn of 1788 and March of 1789. These badges come in two varieties of which this carries the date of 10th March, 1789, the day Parliament presented addresses of congratulation to the King. The Royal Collection's Archives believe the badges to have been commissioned by Queen Charlotte for presentation to individual courtiers who would have worn them at Court or at the Service for Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral.
