清初经过顺治时期的过渡，政权已渐趋稳定，此时瓷业制作展现出崭新的时代风貌，其青花以色泽之艳丽，层次之分明，画工之率意独步本朝，颇得收藏家青睐，正如清人朱琰《陶雅》所说“雍干两朝之青花，盖不逮康窑。”
此笔筒外壁以青花绘洞石花卉图案，其中牡丹、玉兰交相掩映，青料发色饱，构图疏密有致。青花色泽青翠夺目，在素白的釉色衬托下营造出夜色下牡丹、玉兰竞相绽放的朦胧奇效，恰有“清香风满枝”之感，使人望之便觉耳目一新，实为一件康熙青花文房瓷器之珍品。
