A RUTH BADER GINSBURG CHINESE SILK EMBROIDERY.Embroidered silk peacock with Chinese characters to upper right corner, 470 x 237 mm, framed. Justice Ginsburg traveled to China multiple times during her career. Early on, she met a young interpreter, Jia Zhao, who would eventually be the first person/woman from China to be invited to study law at Harvard, and a prominent international law specialist. Jia Zhao has remained a family friend for decades, gifting this embroidery from the Ou River region (her husband's homeland) on an evening when she was invited to dine in with the Ginsburgs. It has hung in a place of honor in the front entryway since then. This intricate and beautiful silk embroidery piece includes the red embroidered "stamp" 甌绣, which identifies the style of embroidery as originating in the "甌绣". 甌,pronounced "ou," is named for the Ou River, (甌 江), running through southern Zhejiang Province in southeast China. This item is visible to the left of the kitchen door leading to the dining room in the apartment listing photographs. None
