In this painting the religious theme and the bucolic landscape impregnates with a lyrical character the meeting of a group of Jesuits in front of a bishop, in a country place with a city in the horizon. Rich in narrative, the variety of gestures, the play of glances, tells us a story, perhaps a wager, whose ultimate meaning escapes us. The studied combination of autumnal, earthy and sienna colours stands out.
