In Romanesque sculpture the language is purely conceptual and works on the basis of symbols and conventions accepted by all. In this sense, the anatomy is synthetic, representative rather than a reflection of the natural, as is the treatment of the face. The carvings are mainly for didactic purposes, and their images are conceived as a visual narrative, which must always be clearly legible. Our lot depicts the Virgin: Mary gazes at her forehead, in sorrow and, although her hands are not preserved, she would join her hands. Her hair is covered by a veil. The play of volumes of her mantle, already advanced with respect to the Romanesque, incipiently Renaissance, is remarkable.
