此砚以老坑端石随形琢就，其石色褐红，石质幼嫩，抚之润滑犹如童子肌肤。
整体以诗仙李白醉酒典故为裁，画面中李白微须宽服，面带微笑，双手紧抱酒坛，一幅酩酊大醉的模样，十分惬意。
砚面宽大，借酒坛的坛口饰为墨池，砚堂微凹以蓄墨，既简洁实用，又富有文人诗意。
因相传有“李白醉酒诗百篇”的典故，古来常以此题材作为装饰应用于各种器物，以喻文人富有才学之意。
