镌文：慎言语，节饮食，蓄道德，能文章。章鋆。
此砚以白端石为材作长方门字式，通体生漆调制朱砂髹之。砚面浅开瓶式砚堂，口沿部深凹半月形墨池。砚背平整，阴刻行楷书诗文，落“章鋆”款，并填以墨彩。
人物简介：
章鋆（1820～1875），字酡芝，号采南，浙江省鄞县人。曾与李鸿章于甲辰年（1844）乡试中同榜中举。咸丰二年（1852）壬子科状元及第。曾任授翰林院修撰、侍奉上书房，官至国子监祭酒。其为人文名素盛，且极廉洁，后卒于任所。
