A Chinese gilt bronze statue of Amitayus dating from the Qianlong period. Amitayus is the bodhisattva aspect of the buddha Amitabha. He sits in padmasana on a double lotus pedestal with his hands in his lap in dhyana mudra. He would have originally held a water vase. He wears clothing with incised lotus borders as well as a five-pointed crown. Dimensions are: 10 3/4 inches tall X 7 1/2 inches wide, 27.3 cm X 19.1 cm. Weight: 4850 grams. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The pedestal is nailed to the bottom of the statue. There are many areas of repair, including to the crown. There are missing elements from the crown and jewelry. The water vase from his hands is missing. A museum number is incised on the back of the statue.
