A rare Paris part sevice made for the Islamic market, circa 1860, painted with a central depiction of a Persian figure or scene, the figures set against imaginary orientalist backgrounds, blue rims within gold bands, each piece inscribed on the reverse in farsi, comprising: six plates, 22.5cm diam, three plates 20.5cm diam, two small side plates 15cm diam, a large plate 26cm diam, three soup bowls, 22cm diam, and a footed dish, 22.5cm diam (16) Provenance: Purchased at Christies, 12th October, 1999, lot 221 and formerly the property of Atabaig 'Azam, Mirza 'Ali Ashgar Khan Amin al-Sultan, last prime minister of Nasr al-Din Shah, and at that time sold by his heirs.
