An Art Nouveau silver and ivory 'Safran' vase c.1901, Mark of V. Boivin, Paris, stamped French Minerva head poincon .950, stamped on base K 844 and makers lozenge mark The repoussé and chased silver bulbous base of overlapping leaves with silver frilled-petalled flowers supporting a tapered ivory vase, on circular foot 16 cm high Notes: V. Boivin is listed as a maker from 1897 at 5 rue de Montmorency, Paris. Notes: Possibly after, or influenced by, a design by Adolphe-Armand Truffier, see Alasdair Duncan 'The Paris Salons 1895-1914 Volume V: Objects D' Art & Metalware', 1999, p. 208 (a Safran vase in silver and enamel of similar form but with some variation is illustrated) There are three cracks to the ivory when you look into the interior. Some old marks and stains. Some dents on the leaves of the bulbous base. Some lifting of silver petals and stems. Wear to base. Please note that this lot contains ivory.
