此笔筒形制为唐英时期所创，曾见有瓷制者，但以铜胎掐丝珐琅制作的并不多见。此笔筒上段可旋转活动，铜胎造工复杂，底顶相连。中段转口边，掐丝饰葫芦形开光，其内黄釉地上为篆书十个天干与十二地支，两者配合转一轮，其最小公倍数为六十，即是中国一甲子六十年之数，因称“甲子万年历”。整体器形匀称，制作严谨，掐丝工艺精细，图案华丽，寓意万代吉祥。实为乾隆时期掐丝珐琅工艺的代表性作品。
