Tang Dynasty, 618-907 AD. A terracotta standing groom figure, possibly Mongolian, on an integral rhomboidal base; wearing a jacket with lapels and boots; fists clasped against chest; some red pigment remains on the face. 434 grams, 22.5cm (9"). From a private UK collection, acquired on the London art market 1990-2000. This is a typical groom figure; statues of foreign servants feature in Tang era burials.
