14th-15th century AD. A shallow glazed ceramic bowl with basal ring, chamfered rim, blue outline panels to the exterior, band of concentric lines, leaves and tendrils to the interior with central floral motif; sticker on the base reading: Saga. Hoi An Hoard. Visal 138130. 883 grams, 25cm (10"). Property of a North London gentleman; formerly with Butterfields Auctions, San Fransisco, USA. In the mid fifteenth century a freighting junk loaded with fine Vietnamese pottery sank in an area of the South China Sea called the “Dragon’s Embrace.” This vase is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau. [No Reserve]
