Stunning, Pair of Chinese Han Dynasty Gilt Bronze dragon paper weights. Gilt bronze seal slab of rich quality, with a fair amount of heft. Crisp even sides etched into the perimeter with well-defined detail of dragon scale above thrashing wavy Lishui water. Protruding from the stamp round is the dominating figure of a vigorous dragon striding the paper weight slab. Sculpture of Dragon is centered on the paper weight block with evenly spaced gaps all the way around allowing for the users fingers to comfortably rest on the edges. Dragon is the symbol of the Emperor, the Son of Heaven, eternity, Yang and Yin, male vigor and fecundity, the Li-shui wave pattern which is known to be the abode of dragons. The dragon is also the most important of the four super natural creatures in Chinese mythology, ranked with the Phoenix, the Qilin, and the Tortoise. The dragon is also the symbol of the month March, of Spring and of rebirth and fertility for it brings the rain bearing clouds of spring. When shown with the heavenly pearl, sometimes ball, it represents thunder and the storm. Emblem of vigilance and safety, and frequently associated with the idea of joy. Excellent detail and design perfectly executed by ancient craftsmen. Extensive trace of gilt on surface, and red-pigment on dragons mane.Height:2.88 inWidth: 2.5 inDepth: 2.5 in
