薛怀 ，江苏宿迁人，居山阳。边寿民外甥。工书、画，花卉小品，清远绝俗。画用钩勒再以枯笔渍染，阴阳向背，极为明豁。写芦雁酷似其舅，常为边寿民代笔。又善画宜兴茶器。卒年八十七。《艺林月刊、墨林今话、墨香居画识、梧门诗话、宋元明清书画家年表附录》。薛怀的绘画水平很高，在画史上有很高的地位。他的枯墨小品，疏脱闲雅，别有风味。他是将宜兴茶器入画的第一人，推动了宜兴茶器向高雅艺术转变。据传世书画看，薛司所画宜兴茶器，皆阴阳相背，十分朗豁，极似现代素描画，深受人们喜爱。
