China. Qing-Dynastie. Kangxi-Periode (1661-1722). Dehua, Provinz Fujian.

Blanc de Chine-Porzellan mit späterer westlicher Bemalung. Hier als Songzi Guanyin (Die Kinderbringende Göttin der Barmherzigkeit) stehend auf einem felsigen Sockel und im rechten Arm jeweils einen Knaben haltend. Der Kopf der Dame mit aufwendiger Hochstecksteckfrisur ist separat angefertigt. Ihre weit fallenden und locker geknoteten Gewänder sind verziert mit bunten Blütenzweigen. Das Kind hält in seiner rechten Hand einen Pinsel (Symbol für Wissbegierigkeit) und in der linken einen Goldbarren (für Wohlstand). Höhe ca. 65cm. Spätere Ständer aus Holz, Ø 24,5cm. Zustand B. Bemalung teils berieben. Vergoldung teils ergänzt. Brandrisse. Bei einem Kind Pinsel und Goldbarren abgebrochen und Zeigefinger einer Guanyin beschädigt.

Die Form der Songzi Guanyin tauchte erstmals in der Nördlichen Song-Dynastie (960-1127) auf, ihre größte Verbreitung fand sie jedoch während der Ming- und Qing-Dynastie. Aufgrund ihrer Ähnlichkeit mit christlichen Madonnen mit Kind erfreuten sich diese Figuren als Exportwaren im westlichen Markt großer Beliebtheit. Manchmal wurden die Figuren aus Dehua-Porzellan zusätzlich farbig bemalt, höchstwahrscheinlich im Westen. Hier das Haar und die Gesichtszüge in Schwarz mit wenig Rot, die Roben und Juwelen in strahlenden Farben und mit viel Vergoldung.

Provenienz:
-Sammlung des bekannten Kölner Antiquitätenhändlers Werner Köntges (1902-1997). Seit 1950er Jahren durch Erbgang im Familienbesitz.

送子观音头束螺高髻，身披天衣帔帛，下着长裙，腰间系带，垂结至膝，右臂抱一童子，神情娴淑，姿态端庄站立在岩石状底座上。童子右手持笔，象征求知，左手持金元宝，象征财富。观音头颈为单独製作，可嵌插式安装。衣服上的折枝花卉纹饰、描金及加彩应为欧洲后添。
送子观音的形象最早出现在北宋时期（960-1127年），在明清时期极其常见。因她与西方圣母玛丽亚手抱圣婴的形象很相似，作为外销品在欧洲广受喜爱。一些德化窑白瓷极有可能是在欧洲后加彩，比如此两尊立像的头髮和眉目加黑红彩，衣装及饰物加彩明艳并施鎏金。
附后配圆形木支座，直径24.5cm。品相等级B，部分加彩磨损，部分鎏金修补，窑裂纹。一童子手中笔和金元宝断裂，一观音的食指破损。

A PAIR OF RARE AND LARGE GUANYIN WITH BOY.
China. Qing dynasty. Kangxi period (1661-1722). Dehua, Fujian Province.

Blanc de Chine porcelain with later Western painting. Here as Songzi Guanyin (The Childbearing Goddess of Mercy) standing on a rocky pedestal and holding a baby boy in her right arm. The head of the lady with the elaborate hairdo is made separately. Her loose and nonchalantly knotted robes are decorated with colourful flower twigs. The child holds a brush (symbol of curiosity) in his right hand and a gold ingot (symbol of prosperity) in his left. Height ca. 65cm. Later bases from wood, Ø 24.5cm. Condition B. Painting partly rubbed. Gilding partly renewed. Firing cracks. The brush and gold ingot of one of the children broken off and one finger on a Guanyin damaged.

Songzi Guanyin appeared first in the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), but it was most widespread during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Because of their resemblance to Christian Madonnas with child, these figures enjoyed great popularity as export goods to the western market. Sometimes the Dehua porcelain figures were additionally painted in color, most likely in the West. Here the hair and the facial features in black with a little bit of red, the robes and jewels in bright colors and with much gilding.
