Edo period (1615-1868), 18th/19th centuryPair of kakejiku (vertical hanging scrolls), ink on paper in silk mounts, inscribed with the famous eight-character phrase Jikishi ninshin kensho jobutsu (Pointing straight at the mind of man, see your nature and become a Buddha); Kensho jobutsu with seals Hakuin no in (Seal of Hakuin) and Ekaku (Wise crane), Jikishi ninshin with a succession seal at upper right; with a wood storage box and cardboard outer storage box.
