EIGHTEEN SPANISH GLAZED 'ARISTA' CEILING TILES, SEVILLE, circa 1525-75, the rectangular tiles decorated with repeating patterns, comprising twelve tiles glazed in honey-brown, green, blue and white with quatrelobe cartouches and stylised foliate motifs, each tile approx. 24.5 x 12.5cm, together with three pairs of tiles decorated in honey-brown, green, blue, manganese and white with circular borders containing linked s-scrolls, with a central flowerhead surrounded by acanthus foliage, each tile approx. 23 x 12.5cm (some typical damage and glaze loss, one tile with the corner re-stuck) (18)Literature: A ceiling tile with identical decoration to the set of twelve is illustrated by Antony Ray, 'Spanish Pottery 1248-1898' (2000), cat.891, p.364.
