19th/early 20th century, lac burgauté bottle: JapanThe first a lac burgauté metal bottle, the black-lacquered ground finely inlaid on both sides with iridescent shells together with gold and silver foil depicting birds in flight or perching on trees near rocks, all under formalized clouds, each narrow side with three flower medallions on a ground filled with dense, repetitive geometric patterns; the second a well-hollowed hair crystal bottle standing on a carefully rounded oval foot ring.2 3/4 and 3in (7 and 7.6cm) high
