款识：职道洪述祖谨叩。九月重阳日。 |备注：附实寄封。信封“不复”二字为袁世凯所批。此信应写于1910年左右，是时袁世凯受清廷排挤，罢官归田，洪述祖在信中感激袁世凯在朝鲜以来的知遇之恩，并解释袁世凯被罢官时自己也有归田之意，但迫于生计只能苟且官场。近日才以回籍鬻田理由请假三月脱身官场。期望袁世凯复出后自己能继续服侍左右，受其重用。||作者简介：洪述祖（1855-1919），字荫之，号观川居士。江苏常州人。辛亥革命后结识袁世凯，成为其嫡系，并任袁世凯政府内务部秘书。于1913年同谋刺杀宋教仁。
