满清皇室崇信藏传佛像，为了满足朝拜的需要，紫禁城乃至各地行宫内均修建有大大小小的皇家庙宇或佛堂，各种不同尺寸、材质的佛龛即应运而生，如此件佛龛即为一例。佛龛六角殿式，主要铜质，由龛与座组成。鎏金兽首式宝顶，屋檐处局部镶嵌八宝，飞檐四角各悬有铜铃。龛体有六面，饰以佛造像，雕工细致巧妙。基座采用莲瓣纹打造，整体造型庄重，法度森严，装饰手法与题材雍容华贵，为宫廷造办处之精品。佛龛的造型，与建筑相关，通常是小物大作的概念，显得格外精巧。例如宫中佛堂内的佛龛造型，就是殿堂缩影。而此佛龛是拟宫殿样式并完全按照实体比例微缩制成，每个细节并非随意设计，而是具有强烈的伦理特征，体现着封建社会森严的等级制度，尽显皇家风范。
