|石叟是明晚期最为著名的冶炼专家和艺术雕塑大师，他继承了传统的铸铜工艺，熟练掌握铜嵌银丝工艺，善制嵌银铜器。此件铜炉嵌银落款‘石叟’二字，字体朴拙无俗韵。石叟无传艺后人，故其作品珍贵稀少。英国大英博物馆收藏有石叟的铜佛、铜香炉，被列为东方最重要的艺术，称其为“中国古代最伟大的艺术家”。清代也多见“石叟”款铜器，清早期“石叟”铜器做工规整，精致典雅。
