|此器取竹根圆雕而成，雕刘海席地而坐，肩披长衣，微微倾侧，赤足跛坐，状似弥勒，平顶披发，圆庞迭颐，上裸胸腹，斜眸大笑，右手笤帚置于股下，左手捏铜钱悬于胸前，似在逗引右腿前之三足金蟾，情景生动。全器包浆温润，雕刻刀法纵逸，人物性格跃然而出，细节刻画一丝不苟，为清代早期竹雕刻佳作。刘海戏金蟾，于明清之际被视为招财的象征。明晚期，嘉靖皇帝崇信道教，而使道教人物故事广为流传，成为瓷器、玉器与竹木雕刻诸艺之经典题材。据传，刘海原名刘海蟾，广陵人，从钟离权、吕洞宾学道成仙，被道教尊为全真道北五祖之一，后被视为福神、财神，并流传“刘海戏金蟾，步步钓金钱”之说。时至今日，刘海戏金蟾题材已演化为蟾蜍口吐金钱，广为运用。
