此炉撇口，束颈，鼓腹，圈足。其修足有力，胎质坚硬，胎体厚重，手感颇佳。釉水莹润，青花发色浓艳，为崇祯青花之上品。崇祯时期青花瓷器的工艺水平非常高超，被宋应星赞誉为“上品细料器”。这一时期瓷器的诸多纹饰蕴涵浓厚的文人气息，题材之特别，内容之丰富，均开一代未有之奇。此钵外壁以青花绘神仙图，刻绘的是民间神话故事“刘阮入天台”故事。
“刘阮入天台”是南北朝时期刘宋朝代刘义庆编着《幽明录》中的故事。写刘晨、阮肇入天台采谷皮，迷道绝粮，见一水中有芜菁叶从山腹流出，乃浮水逆流二三里，至一大溪。溪边有二女，遂随至其家，结为夫妇。居半年，思家求归，二女为指示还路，并集众奏乐相送。既归，亲旧零落，邑屋改异，无复相识，至家中方知已过七世。
