琥珀是数千万年前的树脂被埋藏于地下，经过一定的化学变化后形成的一种树脂化石，是一种有机的似矿物。琥珀是一种古老的宝石饰品材料，作为宝石，也有近6000年的历史，自古就有“千年琥珀，万年蜜蜡”之说。
壶以琥珀为质，呈扁瓶形，直颈，溜肩敛腹，椭圆形圈足，形制娇小，通体素面无纹，壶身两侧各雕饰一贴附铺首，兽面刻画生动威武。顶配铜鎏金嵌宝圆钮，与琥珀壶身结合相得益彰。
