小室翠雲為日本南畫院重要文人畫家、文展帝展審查員。小室乃明治末至大正、昭和年間的文人畫家、帝國藝術院會員，與松林桂月合稱日本南畫雙璧，將日本傳統南畫理想予以突破，並賦與新意。曾於1932年春天到台灣，與嘉義詩人互相酬唱，畫家林玉山、朱芾亭與之相互和韻。此幅繪畫的題跋為後藤新平所題。
