此盖盒作方形倭角，子母口，盖面随形开光，内雕“陶渊明爱菊”，群山环抱间，云雾缭绕，水波粼粼，庭院于画面一侧显现，正中陶渊明手持拐杖，一手抬起似在教导身前孩童，一派悠然自得景象。画面外缘以回纹相称，器壁满饰方形菱花锦纹，雕刻有序，繁而有秩，盒内及底部光素平滑，髹润泽黑漆。
盖盒髹漆厚实，雕刻精细，经百年传承，包浆淳厚，充满光阴流年浸染之美，魅力瑜伽灿然，为同时期精美佳作。
陶渊明是中国古代大名鼎鼎的文人雅士，不为五斗米折腰而归隐田园，举酒浇愁而致几个儿子资质平平。有“采菊东篱下，悠然见南山”的著名诗篇，一篇《桃花源记》更为后世人们塑造了一个乌托邦式的心灵休憩之所。
