Description 19th century Charlestown stoneware jug with an ovoid body, short bottleneck, and handle. Impressed marks along the side.Condition Report Wear throughout the piece; there are some areas with an uneven surface, most likely to be original to the piece. There is a 1/2 inch long loss to the rim; there is a 1/8 inch chip to the rim. There is a circular area- diameter 1 inch- that lost glazing and shows underlying stoneware, possibly original to the piece. Below the neck, there are two losses, each sizing 1 inch and 1/2 inch. Below the losses, there is a black accretion to the surface, smaller than 1/8 inch. Below the "Charlestown" marker, there is a grey accretion that measures 3/4 inch. To the right of the grey accretion, there is an area that lost glazing and shows the underlying stoneware. Below it, there is a network of minute white accretions. Right below it, there are two chips that are discolored dark. To the left of the chips, there is a 1/2 inch long dent to the surface. Towards the foot, there is a 1/2 inch dent. There is an 11 inches long crack that begins from the footrim and that is discolored dark. Below the crack, there is another line of discolored crack, approx. 4 inches long. By the foot rim, there is a network of minute white accretion. Wear to the footrim, consistent with its age and use. White accretion to its underside; there is a crack along the underside that measures 5 inches.
