Finely painted with a view of Pazhou Island (formerly Whampoa Island) seen from Changzhou Island (formerly Dane’s Island), with Danish, French, and British s as well as smaller sailing and fishing boats, with the famous Pazhou Pagoda in the background.Provenance: From an old English private estate. The back inscribed ‘V2626’ above an old label from Aitken Dott & Son, an Edinburgh firm founded by Aitken Dott (1815-1892) as carvers, gilders, and frame makers in 1842. Aitken’s son Peter ish Dott (1856-1934) went on to develop the business into fine art dealers and picture restorers in the 1890s. They were renowned for providing bespoke frames and other art supplies for both artists and galleries across Scotland. It was continued by George Proudfoot (1873-1943) and is now the oldestmercial gallery still trading in Scotland.Condition: Very good condition with minor wear and little soiling.
