此器为刺雁锥，又名刺鹅锥。辽金时期的春捺钵围猎，将海东青放飞追捕天鹅，擒鹅后由士兵用刺鹅锥将天鹅刺死并取其脑喂海东青。海东青，又名矛隼、鹘鹰、海青，是一种猎鹰，分布在我国的北方地区。其身小而矫健，能飞极高，是草原民族狩猎中的重要帮手，能袭天鹅大雁、搏鸡兔。辽、金、元和清朝时，被北方的古代帝王驯服用于狩猎，传统纹饰春水纹即是其捕食天鹅的情景。 此器以铜为质，顶部伏卧一海东青，形态生动。背羽及尾羽一阴线刻划，两足紧紧抓住下方，有伺机而动之态，整器透露出海东青机警灵敏的特征。
