19th century|Two vases incised with scholarly landscapes, poetic inscriptions to the reverse, one signed 'Qing Yin', the other 'Xue Shan'; one vase with carved cartouches enclosing figures, with two inscriptions; the box and cover with a scholar watching a crane, inscription to reverse, signed 'Zhi Shan' and with a red seal. The largest: 9.2cm (3 5/8in) high (4).|Provenance: The collection of H.G. Beasley (1881-1939). The smallest vase: acquired on 16 November 1917; the largest vase: acquired on 29 August 1916; the box and cover: acquired on 25 October 1933, and thence by descent.
