器作龟形，以精铜为材，作伏身昂首观望状。龟首阔口，高额蚕目，长眉两分，短颈壮身，四肢粗短健壮，中心背部设有小孔以注水。色泽古朴浑厚，尽显苍穆气韵，具有中古造型工艺特征。古雅的铜色与造型相得益彰，附底座，置于文房别具意趣。丞字，辅佐之意，在古语中亦通假「承」，用它来命名贮承清水的文房器具，尤为贴切。龟为神兽，象征长寿，亦可辟邪镇宅。
