明代晚期的文房陈设、实用器具，受文人士大夫慕古之情影响，出现许多仿古融新之佳作。
明·高濂在《遵生八笺》评古铜器时说：“方者以飞龙脚文王鼎为上赏”。此器正是仿文王鼎而作。
然而传世的拍品之类鼎式炉，以长方、圆形腹身器居多，此鼎正方腹身者极其鲜见。
拍品以精铜铸造，胎体厚重，制作极其规矩，体量较大，显方正峻拔之态，仪规森然，当陈设于厅堂的重要位置。
平口方唇沿，左右置冲耳，斧状双耳，城门洞耳孔，正方腹，四棱出戟，腹部满铺细密的云雷纹，每面精铸细琢硕大的兽面纹为饰，工不厌精，显示出时人慕古求新的艺术追求。
