Chanel Sequined Jacket, Spring/Summer 1991After four decades at Chanel, Lagerfeld earned a legacy as a creative force that reinvigorated the heritage label, infusing it with postmodern playfulness while honoring its roots. Equally versed in the languages of popular culture and the craft and traditions of couture, a combination described as `high fashion and high camp`, Lagerfeld`s reinvention of the brand and marketing savvy created a voracious appetite among young buyers, sealing the fate of the iconic double CC logo into this century`s visual lexicon. This lot contains one jacket.   Versions of this jacket can be seen in British Vogue, March 1991, page 222 and on the cover of American Vogue from the same year. In the 2016 book `Chanel Catwalk`, the Spring/Summer 1991 collection is stated to be when `Lagerfeld introduced a new look he dubbed city surfer, because it`s perfect for diving into the nightlife from Paris to Rome to London to New York. It`s a good way to mix a jacket over everything - leggings, a short chiffon skirt. I simply took the sporty style of the surfer and stamped it out in sequins...". Linda Evangelista wore a blue version of this white sequined jacket and walked the runway with a surfboard in her hands. Versions of this jacket featured in the 2005 "Chanel" exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in which it was described as `referencing neoprene wetsuits`. There are a few spots on the sequins on the front top left shoulder, by the left and right sleeve cuff, on the center front by the hem and zip closure, and a few spots on the center back towards the hem. There are faint spots along the black trim on the front of the right and left sleeve hem as well as along the bottom hem. There is slight fraying on the bottom hem and is slightly popped open on the left side. The lining has a faint mark on the center back left side and a pulled thread there as well and a mark on the left side of the neck line. Everything is sold `As Is`.
